Eleni Bagaki has created a limited edition print to accompany her solo show at NEW STUDIO.

Tongue and Hand, 2015, collages together two of the most sensory points of the human body. Through gesture and speech, the hand and tongue consistently communicate the thoughts, habits and desires of one's body and mind. In keeping with Bagaki's practice, which draws upon the legacy of Pop art, the images are found from commercial websites and undergo a process of manipulation via emphasised scale and colour.

The artwork is produced in an edition of 25, each one signed and numbered by the artist, and for sale from NEW STUDIO for £60. Email: info@newstudio.org.uk

AVAILABLE TO BUY NOW: NEW LIMITED EDITION BY DOMINIC WATSON

To mark his solo exhibition at NEW STUDIO, Dominic Watson has produced a 'packaged emotion' in the form of a 7" hand-cut vinyl record with digitally printed sleeve.

The record, cut at The Carvery in east London, plays the song 'Specific Emotions' written and recorded by the artist. The cover artwork features 2 images; a still from Watson's music video in the exhibition at NEW STUDIO and a title design overlaying a painting by 19th century romantic landscape artist Thomas Moran. The label on the record depicts a set of interlocking legs, a nod to Watson's fictional pop duo, Above Average Effect.

The artwork is produced in an edition of 30, each one signed and numbered by the artist, and for sale from NEW STUDIO for £50. Email: info@newstudio.org.uk

OPEN CALL SELECTED ARTISTS

Eleni Bagaki, Hairy armpits & Knee, DETAIL, collage, 29 x 42 cm, 2015

NEW STUDIO is pleased to announce that Eleni Bagaki, Sophie Mackfall and Wendy Plovmand have each been selected to present solo shows during 2015.

The 3 artists were selected from over 700 applications to NEW STUDIO’s first open call for artist proposals, held between 9 January - 22 February 2015. Along with co-selector Kirsty Ogg, we would like to thank all who applied; the breadth of the applications was great and we had the privilege of encountering many new artists we look forward to following in the future.  A HUGE thank you to everyone!

About the selected artists:

Sophie Mackfall, Taking one or two steps forward then one, two, three back – or to the side, gouache on paper, wicker and string, sizes variable, 2014

Using the internet as endless source material, Eleni Bagaki’s large-scale collage and sculptural installations play with consumerism, sexual desire and the body ideal. Eleni (b.1982, Greece) lives and works in Athens.

Sophie Mackfall’s painting practice embraces the spatial situations in which she works, often suspended across a room, or applied directly to a wall. Her installations can include paper, glass, fabric and cane, hovering between domestic intimacy and a broader architectural landscape. Sophie (b.1984, York) lives and works in London.

Wendy Plovmand approaches painting, objects and imagery as constructions, often borne out of a collage-like technique of cutting, splicing and rearranging. Inspired by psychoanalysis and ideas on hysteria, Plovmand shifts between controlling the process and giving up control, to question the idea of fantasy and enigma. Wendy (b.1975, Denmark) lives and works in Copenhagen.
